Owning a car is expensive, there’s no doubt about it. The costs of a monthly auto loan or lease payment, auto insurance, maintenance, repairs and, of course, fuel can add up to a significant chunk of your budget.
JD Power reported that, as of 2023, the average American spends roughly $150 to $200 on gas each month. Overall, American families spend approximately $5,000 on gas annually, representing over 2% of their monthly income. This is no small sum, especially with the high cost of most daily essentials recently.
The New Prime Perk
Luckily, there’s a new way for Prime members who are also car owners to save some money at the pump each time they fill up their tank.
Amazon recently announced a new perk available to its Prime members. In partnership with earnify, Prime members can now link their Amazon account to earnify and save 10 cents per gallon when fueling up at over 7,000 gas stations, including BP, Amoco and participating AMPM stations nationwide.
How To Save Money on Gas
Here’s how you can save money on fuel by using your Prime membership and earnify:
- Amazon and earnify each offer a discount of 5 cents a gallon, for a total savings of 10 cents a gallon for Prime members.
- The 10 cents a gallon includes all fuel grades, and there’s no minimum or maximum number of gallons required for the savings to be applied at each fill-up.
- You’ll need to log in or create a free earnify account. You can download the app on the App Store or Google Play to get started.
- After you sign up, simply apply the offer at the pump by entering your phone number, using the earnify app or using the payment method linked to your earnify account.
Amazon estimated that the average Prime member can save about $70 per year on fuel costs, based on 675 gallons used per year and an average fuel economy of 21.5 miles per gallon. If you’re a car owner, the additional added value of this new benefit can help defray the annual cost of maintaining a Prime membership and ultimately might make it worth paying for each year.
